Accidents at work
Yesterday, the instructor
spoke to the third year students of technical school. He talked about fatal and
serious accidents during work. He said:
Every year, thousands of
people are injured or hurt when they are at work. Many of them can never work
again. In the world, there are many people who get injured and even killed at
work everyday. All these people are victims of accidents.
Every accident, of
course, causes suffering to the victim and his family. Some of the accidents
are fatal and some of them are serious. Fatal accidents are accidents that
result in death. Serious accidents are accidents that make people badly injured.
Both fatal and serious accidents usually happen because the workers are
careless in their work or do not obey the safety rules.
The greatest number of
these accidents is generally in factories. However, construction or building
work is more dangerous. For every 100.000 construction workers, eighteen die
every year in accident at work. For the same number of factory workers, there
are four deaths per year. Most of the accidents often occur during lifting or handling
of materials. Some of them are caused by machinery. Fall is another man cause.
To prevent these
accidents, the workers are instructed to follow the safety rules and provide
themselves with special equipment and clothing.
